2010 Membership Information

Membership in the North Dallas RC Club (NDRCC) is open to everybody, but you must be an active member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) before you can join.

The AMA is the official national body for model aviation in the United States. The AMA Safety Code sets the standard for model aircraft operation and forms the cornerstone of the NDRCC safety regulations. The AMA also provides liability, accident, and loss insurance to individual members and clubs. You can obtain further information from the AMA website (http://www.modelaircraft.org) or by calling 765-287-1256.

Please be aware that you must display a current NDRCC membership card in your frequency slot anytime you fly. Absolutely no substitutions are allowed, not even expired membership cards or current AMA cards. Failure to follow this rule can lead to permanent loss of flying priveleges.

New Members

The 2010 NDRCC dues and initiation fees are listed below. Each category is defined by your age on July 1st of the membership year, which may not be your age on the date you join.

YOUTH (under 19) - $20 annual dues, no initiation fee
OPEN (Adult) (19 to 64) - $75 annual dues, plus $125 initiation fee
OPEN (Senior) (65 and over) - $37.50 annual dues, plus $125 initiation fee
EXTRA Family (any age) - $20 annual dues, no initiation fee

The dues are reduced 50% for new members that join after the month of June. New members that join in December pay dues only for the following year at the January rate.

New OPEN members are required to pay a one-time intiation fee in addition to the annual dues. You will never have to pay the initiation fee again, even if you allow your annual membership to lapse for several years. YOUTH or EXTRA Family members must pay the initiation fee the first year they renew as an OPEN member.

Lifetime memberships are also available at the following rates:

OPEN Life (Adult) (19 to 64) - $1,000 lifetime dues, no initiation fee
OPEN Life (Senior) (65 and over) - $500 lifetime dues, no initiation fee

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I fly at the club field before I join?
The club has strict rules regarding guest flyers. Guests that live within two hours of the field are limited to one flying visit per month and no more than three lifetime guest visits. Guests must place an AMA membership card in the frequency slot along with the club membership card of an NDRCC sponsor. (There is no limit to the number of spectator visits to the field.)

Does the club offer flight training to new members?
Free training is offered to all members. You can obtain further information by clicking the "Training" link in the main menu on the left side of the NDRCC home page.

Can I join or renew before my AMA card arrives?
You may submit an application to NDRCC before you receive your AMA card. We check your AMA status electronically, but this requires that we have both your name and AMA number. You can contact the AMA to get your number before the card arrives.  You will not receive your club membership card until the AMA confirms that you are active for the renewal year.

Do I have to supply all of the information requested on the application?
At a minimum, you must supply a name, AMA number, street address, date of birth, and signature. An AMA turbine waiver number is also required if you intend to operate a turbine powered aircraft.

I have not been active in the club for several years, do I have to pay the initiation fee to renew?
You never have to pay the initiation fee again, even if you allow your annual membership to lapse for several years.

Why is there a late renewal penalty?
The club experienced multiple problems with members flying on expired cards early in the year. The officers were receiving weekly complaints from paying members that were waiting in line behind expired members that refused to follow the rules. The late fee is simply an incentive to get all members to renew on time.

Do I get a discount on the dues if I renew late in the year?
The club does not offer any discount on renewals. It is not practical to structure the fees based on individual usage throughout the year. Members that only use the facilities during the first few months of the year would be entitled to partial refunds based on this premise.

Thank You NDRCC Membership committee

All,

In accordance with the AMA and in compliance with our Gold Club Leader status with that governing body.  The North Dallas RC Club is obligated once a year to update the safety rules for our flying site.  This year the NDRCC BOD has put forth the following new rules changes effective immediately.

During the drafting of the new 2010 Safety Rules it will become necessarry to re align the field in accordance with the new changes.  Please click on this link to view the new layout.  The BOD hopes to have a new aerial photo made so that everyone can see the limits and the boundaries that need to be avoided.
