Members Appreciation day – 2012
This year our Family Day was held on Saturday, May 26 and over 50 members and family attended the event. Although we had winds in excess of 15 mph, the sky was consistently filled with planes. Just before lunch, in Recognition of Memorial Day, we paid tribute to all veterans by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, A fantastic brisket lunch was served (prepared by Shirley Shafer using Dr. Bruce’s secret recipe). Most members brought desserts to share, so there was plenty of food. I saw several members going through the line 2-3 times. Following lunch we had great flight demos

provided by Dave Schaeffer, Greg Pulcini, Jody Mathson, Dave Stelts, Dan Davis and a special aero tow of Don Hafer 19’ Minimoa sailplane (weighing 33 lbs) by Charles Shafer. Don did a great job negotiating strong winds and made a perfect landing. This may have been the first aero tow at Eagle Field.

A short Club Meeting was held in the afternoon and Jacque Parker managed to pull off another great raffle which featured special prizes for the ladies attending. All total, over 25 prizes were awarded. In addition to raffles prizes, all kids attending received free toys (always popular). 

Needless to say, attendance was less than expected probably due to the windy conditions and the fact that the selected date fell on Memorial Day Weekend. As we move forward in planning for next year’s Members day, I would appreciate any recommendations from our members about improving this event.
